{Urban Session}

I have to admit, out of all the sessions I do each year, the urban sessions are always some of my most favorite. I love the colors, the feel, and well ... just everything about an urban session. I had the opportunity to meet up with Kelly (attending a super cool art school in Northern California) and her mom yesterday for a fun session before Kelly heads back to school. She was so incredibly sweet and I can only imagine the places she is going to go in life.

It's really easy sometimes to forget how fun your family is. My aunt called earlier this week to tell me that my cousin Bobby and his family were going to be in town for a few days. I haven't seen Bobby in ages and I was so excited because he and his wife have a 5 month old baby girl that we were going to get to meet for the first time. Ryan, Cade and I went over and spent a few hours hanging out with my aunt and uncle, Grandma, and cousins this morning and it was so much fun just being together. I love our family. :)

I've been sitting here thinking about my New Year's Resolutions for 2009. Usually I make resolutions and then break them within the first 24 hours. I'm REALLY hoping that 2009 will be different.

I want to savor and enjoy each day instead of watching the days fly by wondering where the time went.

I want to love those around me more than I ever have and make a conscious effort to make sure they know how much they mean to me.

I want to do things that force me out of my comfort zone and work on not being so introverted.

I want to dream BIG and see this business grow into things I can't even imagine.

I want to work on my relationship with God and reconnect with the One who has made this dream of mine a reality.

I want to start exercising again and focus on a healthier lifestyle for my family ... no excuses.

I want to get back to the basics of photography and remember why I do this in the first place. I get so caught up in the "business" side of things that sometimes I forget why I fell in love with photography to begin with. This is my passion. This is my heart. This is an expression of who I am. I need to focus on that more.

Happy New Year to all of you! I hope 2009 brings you more joy and love than you could ever imagine. :)

{Family Traditions}

My family has so many fun traditions. For example, every gathering *has* to include a cheeseball, a bowl of peanut m&m's, chips and dip, and cheese potatoes. Oh yes, and if there is ever a cake involved it HAS to come from "The Grove" ... anything else is just unacceptable.

Although these traditions are things that I sometimes chuckle at, I have to admit that I love them ... every last one of them.

One big tradition in my family is the annual Cookie Bake. We have been doing this almost my entire life and it's something I look forward to every year. I thought I would get you all in the holiday mood and share some photos from tonight's festivities.

{So Squishy and Sweet}

I was so excited when I woke up this morning because I knew I was going to be photographing three toddler girls today. There is just something about little girls that I absolutely adore. They are so squishy and sweet ... and seriously ... girls have THE best clothes in the entire world. (I really think little boys get the short end of the stick when it comes to clothes ... this is coming from the mom of an almost 2 year old little guy. The only choices we have are bugs, trucks, or fire engines. *sigh) And a big thanks to both families for being so flexible on the location. We were originally supposed to meet at Balboa Park but I remembered this morning that December Nights is this weekend. That would have been a mess! So, we had to make a last minute location change. I think it worked out great though. I am REALLY loving all of the images from today.

{I Feel Your Pain ...}

So many times I have had people say to me "Your son is so lucky to have a photographer for a mom. You must have so many great pictures of him." I laugh when people say that because even though, yes, I am a photographer, my son is still 2 years old. For all of my clients whose children have had meltdowns during our session ... this one is for you. :)

*Side Note: I woke up this morning with the intention of taking Cade out to capture a few images for our Christmas cards. He had the cutest little outfit on ... blue jeans that had this really cute red/green pattern at the cuff, a white shirt, and an ADORABLE little black corduroy jacket. Within 30 seconds of getting out of the car (and I'm not even remotely exaggerating), Cade took a flying leap into the freshly cut, WET, grass and was covered from head to toe in grass stains. Not.even.kidding. So, the images below show you what was left of his outfit. Even "photographer's kids" are still just kids. :)

I had the last of my holiday mini-sessions this weekend ... whoo-hoo! It's almost vacation time! Here are a few (ok, quite a few) of my favorites from this weekend. I LOVE every single one of them. :)

Does this family look familiar? I photographed them a couple weeks ago but they wanted additional family photos, so I was lucky enough to see them for a second time!

I photographed Aidan back in October. I seriously think he has aged about 20 years since the last time I saw him. These kids grow so fast!

This is one of my favorite images of the day. How fun are mom and dad? The whole family was using my box as a drum. Love it!

{So Much to Be Thankful For}

Happy Thanksgiving!

There are so many things in life that I have to be thankful for. My family, my home, my goofy basset hound Charlie, my friends ... the list goes on and on.

But the one thing I'm REALLY thankful for this year is the health of my almost-two-year-old son, Cade.

In September of 2007, Cade was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. I am very thankful, that on this Thanksgiving Day, I can say that my son is currently cancer free.

He brings so much joy to my life. His laughter is contagious, his personality is hysterical, his love for life is fierce, and when he wraps his little arms around my neck and says "mama" I just completely melt.

Only a mother (or father) can really understand the love you have for your child. I look at him daily and thank God for the gift He has given to me and my husband. So, on this Thanksgiving Day, I encourage all of you to hug your little ones a little tighter and be thankful for each day you have with them. Each day we have is a gift. My prayer for you today is that you never take one breath for granted.

What a FUN day I had with all of these families. To start with, they were all absolutely gorgeous. It's families like these that make my job so very easy. :) On top of being insanely beautiful, everyone was so much fun and I had an absolute blast. The weather was perfect, the location was beautiful, the kiddos cooperated ... what more could you ask for? :)

I'm so excited that it's FINALLY beginning to look and feel like Fall here in San Diego. Today I met up with 8 month old Mikayla (and her fun parents of course) at this great little place by my house. I was thrilled when I showed up and there were actually leaves on the ground and get this ... it was actually a bit on the chilly side! It seems like I've been waiting for weeks for it to begin feeling like Autumn. I think Mikayla is definitely an Autumn girl ... Fall colors make this sweet girl even more beautiful than she already is. :)

If I had to use one word to describe little Miss Reagan it would be "delectable." Her awesome red curls are to die for and she is just the sweetest, most inquisitive little lady in the whole wide world. At one point she decided to sit in my lap and take a look at the photos that I had taken of her on my camera. It was at that moment that I decided I wanted to take her home. hahaha. Oh yes, and her parents were pretty darn cool too. :)

Remember this gorgeous maternity shoot from last month? Well look who has arrived! Meet Gwendalynn Mae. I was given the opportunity to photograph Miss Gwendalynn on Friday and it brought back so many memories from when Cade was a newborn. All the emotions and love that go into caring for one tiny human being who solely depends on you for everything in life. Life is such an amazing miracle.

It's the middle of November and I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. The holidays wipe me out. I have four more sessions this weekend, one on Monday, and seven (yikes) next weekend. After that things should calm down a little. I'm thinking a warm bath and glass of wine are in order. :)

{It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas ...}

The months of October and November are usually crazy months for photographers due to the extra sessions for holiday portraits. This year has been no exception. All I can say is this ... 34 families in 8 weeks. Holy smokes! I have been having such a blast with all of these fun fun fun families though and it is well worth it.

Here are the sneak peeks from my day of mini-sessions yesterday. Be prepared for a TON more photos before the month is over. :)

First up is this super adorable pair of brothers, Jack and Luke

I bought this hat a couple weeks ago and have been waiting for the perfect little blue eyed guy to put it on. Needless to say, I was SO excited when Luke showed up!

Jack was cracking me up during his session. I asked him what he thought was in the box and this was the look he gave me ... followed with a "ummm, there's nothing in the box." He's too smart for his own good.

Here's Lilly and Anna! I was so excited about photographing them because I first photographed these two adorable ladies when Anna was a couple months old and it's so cool to see how much they've grown!

Here's another little lady that I have photographed before as well. The first time I photographed baby Emily she wasn't even walking yet. This time I had to put my running shoes on to keep up with her!

Does anyone else think she looks like Cindy Lou Who? SOOOOO cute.

Next up ... Camryn! I just adore little girl curls. If I ever have a daughter I hope she has beautiful curly locks like Camryn does.

My last session of the day was this cute patootie, Maysie Grace. She totally ROCKED this tutu and leggings combination.

{I Think I'm Seeing Double}

When I found out I was going to have the opportunity to photograph twin 2 year olds I was super excited because I have twin nephews who are 8 months old and I figured this would be good practice for me. Our photo session was a little on the chaotic side but so much fun. Julia and Anson are two of the most inquisitive toddlers I have met to date. They loved running around (most of the time in opposite directions, hahaha) and exploring everything. I loved watching them interact with each other and they were just too cool to work with.

Meet Sofia. This energetic little lady had a blast smelling the flowers and watching the ocean during our session. And boy let me tell you ... her daddy sure does love her! Miss Sofia is definitely a daddy's girl and it was so sweet to see the two of them interact with each other. There's nothing that will soften a man's heart like a daughter. :)

Meet Ava. This sweet thing is 18 months old and so much fun! I love photographing kids this age. They are so curious about everything and it's so cool to just follow them around and be part of their world. Ava definitely loved checking out the scenery. She laughed at the line of ants we saw, splashed in the fountains, and had a blast climbing the steps and running up and down the ramps. If only I had half the energy of a toddler ...

{Someone Has Stolen My Heart ...}

This weekend I was given the opportunity to photograph a little girl who has just completely stolen my heart.

Meet Madeleine. She has a smile that melts your heart and her laughter will make you start giggling yourself. During the photo session there were so many people that stopped to admire this sweet little girl. You can't help but look at her and smile ... she's absolutely beautiful.

Madeleine is very special to me, and although I have only known her and her family for a few weeks, it already feels like I have known them forever. Madeleine has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, the same childhood cancer my own son was diagnosed with last year when he was 9 months old. In fact, this photoshoot took place almost exactly one year to the day from when we found out my sweet Cade had cancer.

It's kind of hard to explain, but when I look at Madeleine I see hope, and love, and peace. She has the sweetest, most gentle spirit, but at the same time she is filled with a fierce strength and I know that a year from now we will be having a cancer free party for her as well.

Sweet baby Madeleine ... you have stolen my heart and I'm so blessed to know you. Here's a sneak peek of your session for mommy and daddy. :)

I would just like to say this ... I LOVE my job. :) Every session I have with a family just gets better and better. Today I had the chance to photograph two gorgeous little fashion divas. Miss Hailey and Miss Dyllan were SO much fun and so squeezable. Dyllan was cracking me up with her supermodel poses and Hailey just completely melted my heart with her hugs and sweet personality (I was almost tempted to take her home with me. hahaha.) Today I had the opportunity to photograph two sweet kiddos down at the beach. Miss Paige showed up in the cutest ensemble (big kudos to mom! :)) and was so easy going and fun. For session #2 I got to hang out with Mr. Personality (aka Luke) and wow was he fun!! He just turned two years old yesterday and the little guy is already talking in full sentences. I was amazed!!!! :)

Busy Busy Weekend

What a busy weekend this has been! In the last 48 hours I have photographed 6 children and a belly! I'm exhausted. hahaha. Here are a few photos from this weekend. It was very busy but oh so much fun!

First up is this sweet little blonde haired guy. He was very much like my own son and did not want to sit still for very long. I love curious little guys who have to explore everything. :)

Meet Jack. He is 19 months old and a bundle of energy! We had such a fun session this morning at Balboa Park and Jack loved exploring *everything*. He was so sweet and fun. I definitely got my workout in for the day! Here's a sneak peek for mom.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

I've been on vacation and just got back this week. The family and I went to Austin and WOW it was beautiful. I had two sessions while we were there (does a photographer ever really go on vacation? hahaha) and will be posting sneak peeks from those soon. Back to back maternity sessions ... what could be more fun? I had the honor of photographing Bethany and Chip this week who are expecting their first baby. What a sweet and fun couple! Radiant Pregnancy

This gorgeous mama is 7 months pregnant and absolutely radiant. It had been over 100 degrees for several days and we were thankful that on the afternoon of our shoot it was cool and overcast. Thanks for letting me share in your pregnancy!
